The free motorcycle rider courses are offered in an effort to reduce the severity and frequency of motorcycle accidents. The courses use the Motorcycle Safety Foundation curriculum, which is designed to help riders manage their risk and increase their skills through riding and classroom instruction. Any Illinois resident, 16 years of age or older, who holds a valid driver's license or permit is eligible to register for courses.
Illinois State's Motorcycle Safety Education Program provides motorcycles and helmets for participants in the basic and intermediate rider courses. Participants in the experienced rider courses must provide their own street legal motorcycle.
